Bedford Waste Services Corp. was originally organized in 1994 and became a utility in 1995.
The Bedford Waste Sewer System
Each home that Bedford Waste provides service to has a sewer line running from the home to a septic tank. Each septic tank consists of a holding tank and a pump chamber. The homeowner owns the sewer line, but Bedford Waste owns, operates, and maintains the septic tank. Bedford Waste generally pumps the septic tanks every 2-3 years and replaces the pumps every 5-10 years.
The septic tank connects via another sewer line to the sewer main in the road. The sewer main then leads to one of five common leach fields for the community. In 2021, at the behest of Bedford Waste, Maznek Septic Service assessed each leach field and determined that all were in “fair” condition. Constructed in 1995 and 1996, the leach fields are considered to be middle aged and in normal working condition.
